JAKARTA, – The government through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has denied the issue of increasing electricity rates (TTL). The issue has been viral on social media lately. Although it has never risen since 2017, the government has yet to have a plan to increase electricity tariffs. “The issue of increasing electricity rates is certainly not true.
The government to date has no plans for electricity tariff increases. Even, capable customers have never risen since 2017, “said the Head of the Communication Bureau, Public Information Services, and Cooperation of the Supreme Personal Energy Ministry as quoted from the official website of the Cabinet Secretariat
Agung explained, the electricity tariff for 900 VA-class households could even be given a discount of IDR 52 per kWh since March 1, 2019 to IDR 1,352 per kWh. While the rate of household groups is 1,300 VA and above Rp. 1,467.28 per kWh.
The electricity rates for the 450 VA and 900 VA customers are still given subsidies at a rate of Rp. 415 per kWh and Rp. 605 per kWh, with a total customer of around 29 million. According to Agung, Indonesia’s electricity tariffs that follow tariff adjustment are still relatively cheap compared to other ASEAN countries.
