The National Electricity Company (PLN) is conducting a feasibility study for the construction of a new Bayu or Wind Power Plant (PLTB). Feasibility studies are carried out on the western and central parts of Java. Head of PLN’s New and Renewable Energy Division, Zulfikar Manggau, explained that he was awaiting the results of studies from regional units. If the report shows that the project is feasible, it can be auctioned immediately.
Director of New Energy and Renewable Energy of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Harris revealed that there are 157 locations inside and outside Java which are potential for the construction of new renewable energy plants (EBT).
The total potential capacity reaches 4,700 MW (MW). “In addition to 75 2017 PPA (Electricity Purchase Agreement) with a total capacity of more than 1,500 MW, there are 157 potential EBT projects to be auctioned,” he said to katadata.co.id on Friday (12/7). However, there is no new PLTB planned to operate commercially until 2020. Even so, there will be additional capacity for the Sidrap Expansion PLTB, in the near future. The plant is located in Sindereng Rappang, South Sulawesi. This PLTB was developed by UPC Sidrap Bayu Energi with an investment of US $ 150 million.
